Didn’t get sued last time.
Getting brazen now. (giggles)
I was going to write about what qualifies a song for becoming a cover. You gotta like the song, probably. You gotta be able to play the song, most likely. You gotta have an idea in your head that you may be able to contribute to the lore of song — the history of it. Maybe even do better than the original artist did.
With those criteria in mind, I would love to be posting Sublime’s Santeria, Dream Theater’s Pull Me Under, and Elton John’s Candle in the Wind.
I could probably play all three. I love all three. I haven’t recorded them, though.
I would butcher them.
Know how I know?
Because I have no problem butchering a song and still keeping a copy of it around to listen to every once in awhile. And I have the receipts.
I didn’t butcher all these songs, but one of them is definitely out of the wheelhouse ya’ll probably expect from me.
And since I learned from the first one of these, I have included the YouTube link with each song so you know what it could have sounded like if I were, you know… better. Not self deprecation, I promise. I mean better at mimicking.
Alice in Chains — Would
I know how to play this song. And I love this song. This is one of those songs I would listen to on the way to job interviews to pump myself up. Had I ever been a gym rat, this would have been a gym rat song. Although, arguably, my vocal range is closer to Jerry’s than Layne’s, I still had fun.
Gus Gus — Why?
I have no idea how I stumbled on to this song. I think it was part of one of those compilation CD’s certain retailers gave you free if you spent X amount of dollars on their overpriced printed t-shirts. Either way, there was something about the singer’s voice that just got me. This is one of those songs I guess I thought I could contribute something. Another version. A version that people who loved Alice in Chains might better relate to.
Joe Diffie — Prop Me Up Beside the Jukebox (If I Die)
Mom always told me she wished I would do a country song. Here’s the receipt I was talking about. When you’re done giggling about it, and the urge to listen to it one more time, I am going to tell you now that you don’t have to. Don’t feel compelled to put yourself through trying to figure out what would happen if Weird Al and Limp Biscuit collaborated. This is a pretty good representation of how I imagine that pairing would go…
Yeah… Sorry about that. Just because you can do a thing doesn’t mean you should do a thing.

Dude I had that stupid Jukebox song stuck in my head last week and I had finally got rid of it so thanks for nothing 😂
And Gus Gus is awesome. Great take.
And we already talked about Would 😁
Keep ‘em coming!
I love your version of Prop Me Up Against the Jukebox. Feels like old Punk Ska vibes a la The Clash and Stray Cats.
